Bringing private day care and Special Needs together to build a brighter future
Side By Side are multi-needs settings that provide exceptional care for children with & without additional needs. We offer a unique and nurturing environment for children from birth to school age, giving children the opportunity to thrive in a setting that builds upon their individual qualities and expands on their development at every chance.
The nursery specialises in supporting children with a range of needs, working with specially qualified staff that have extensive experience and training for special needs care. We provide the opportunity for intensive 1-1 sessions, and unique group activities that excite and engage all ages and abilities.
Side By Side is owned by two highly qualified managers who have lengthy experience in working with children in early years and SEND.
Our early years practitioners and educators are highly trained in all aspects of childcare and early education, having a wealth of experience behind them.
As with all nurseries, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, with additional specialist strategies used alongside this for our SEND superheroes. Whilst learning is important, our learning activities and experiences are always centred around the children's interests to excite and engage them.
Christina is one of our managers at Side By Side Nursery. She manages the side of the nursery that provides exceptional care for children with additional needs. Her career began at a local special school over 10 years ago where she had the opportunity to support teachers in classrooms, working closely with students with a variety of complex needs; Autism, emotional behavioural difficulties, moderate and profound learning disabilities. During this time she gained a strong passion and interest for the complex needs of these students. Christina then went onto study for a B.Phil in Autism (Children) at Birmingham University. She was then given the opportunity to work as an unqualified teacher. Christina went on to fulfil her post for a number of years, teaching in classrooms specifically designed for students with diagnoses of Autism or related conditions such as pathological demand avoidance. After developing a keen interest in the PECS strategy, she joined as a Consultant for PECS UK in August 2018, where she delivered workshops in PECS, managing challenging behaviour, The Pyramid Approach, Functional ABA and many more in many destinations all over the globe. During this role Christina also supported parents/carers and professionals at home and within the settings on a consultation basis.
Lucy manages the mainstream side of our nursery, after studying Childcare she quickly found her passion for helping children to learn and grow. She has worked within Early Years Provision for 16 years, planning, preparing and managing staff within a variety of settings and locations.
During this time Lucy voluntarily organised and managed a weekly playgroup at St Mark’s church that was widely loved by many families in the area. Lucy begun managing this group over 3 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed her experience. Here she provided an environment for all local families to come along to participate in stimulating activities for children and a place for parents and carers to meet. Here, she gained an abundance of skills and qualifications to strengthen her ability to offer this nursery environment. Lucy studied Early Years Development at Distinction Level. Continued professional development has kept her abreast of the changes within this provision. Her passion is the nurture of young minds, creating a platform for progression through play, creative well-structured activity.
